Alright so I stink at this blogging thing...there are just too many stories to tell!

These are pictures of Keejic Bay, a First Nations Reserve about an hours drive north-west from Sioux Lookout. This is apparently a "nice" reserve. I would not want to see what the others look like. It was pretty crazy to see what the moms and babies are going home to. I even got to see one of my patients at her home. It was very exciting!

Let the pictures speak for themselves.

Now imagine yourself living here...and these are just a few of the many pictures that I have.

Anybody Want Some SNOW?!?!

I am pretty sure that on the long weekend in May there is NOT suppose to be snow....yes it is snowing here. It started last night and when I woke up this morning here is what it looked like out my window.

Well, now these pictures can haunt your dreams this weekend. Have a great time wherever you are!! Maybe I will make a snowman....or a snow angel. :D

This is the sign on the way into town and needless to say after a 3 day drive it was very exciting to see it.

Random Info on Sioux Lookout
1. You can walk around and see tons upper class homes and then all of sudden see houses that are falling apart
2. I think we live in the "ghetto" of town
3. There are no stop lights...but a pedestrian cross walk where you can stop traffic
4. Stop signs are stupid...why would anyone put up a 3-way stop when there are 4-ways to go?? (and this happens all over town...haha)
5. You can pretty much walk from one side of town to the other in about 15-20 minutes!

My First Apartment

I have arrived in Sioux Lookout....finally!!! The Very long and very fun 3 day drive has come to an end. As we drove to the health centre, our first challenge awaited us...we had to figure out how we would get into our apartments. Both the ladies we had talked to were away from work and it seemed like no one else knew anything about us. So after a long hunt for keys we finally found them at the admitting desk. I know...I should have thought of that earlier :D

I easily got into my apartment...a cute little bachelor apartment. And it is even painted yellow and green! Suits me very nicely. But, Laura had some difficulty getting into her room...the keys did not work. So off we went back across the road to find someone to help us and again no one knew who would be able to give us a hand. Finally, we found the right keys and in we went! In the process we got to meet lots of people...a very nice plus!

Here's my apartment (with my touches on it of course)

On The Road

Well, I have officially started the journey up to Sioux Lookout. Right now I am sitting in a motel in Marathon, ON
It's actually pretty comfy...but I don't think I would care where I was right now just as long as I can lay down.
The drive up has been great so far. No problems
I think tomorrow it will be important to remember to persevere because it will be our longest stretch...8.5-9 hours. It will be LONG.

I will be remembering that I can do all things with God in my corner!!

PS. pictures to come since the USB cord is somewhere in the car....you can only imagine how difficult it would be find!

9 DAYS!!

I can't believe that I only have 9 more days till I leave for my summer adventure. I still have so much to do before I leave...time needs to go slower so that I can fit everything and everyone in. Slowly I am getting things done though. YAY!

I finally bought a new pair of hiking boots...I have wanted and needed a new pair for a long time and now that I am going up north I had a reason to buy them. I absolutely love to hike and that is one thing I am really looking forward to in Sioux Lookout. So here they are...
They are KEEN hiking boots and they are super comfy...hopefully they will keep my feet happy and dry on all my adventures :D

At this moment I just hope I can make it through the next week, get everything done, say "see you later" to lots of people, and then safely leave for Sioux Lookout. Let's hope so!!!

Wow! It has been a while since I have posted anything, but here it goes. I am going to start using this blog while I am away this summer.

So what am I doing this summer? I am heading up north, about a 24 hour drive, to a place called Sioux Lookout. It is a small aboriginal community and I am going there to do a nursing placement for school.

Over the next few months, I will have updates of what I am up to. Hopefully I will have some awesome stories and even better pictures.

STAY TUNED
